“Our mission is to ease the worries of safety with students at the University of Washington. With worries of increased unusual nighttime activity in Seattle, it is important for us to find a way to use technology to provide a platform to help students in easing their college experience.”
Mission Statement
The Problems
Constant late reports for UW students
Unsafe conditions especially at night
No current solutions for non crime related
Solution
We envision a web map application that helps UW students identify possible dangerous routes and sites ahead of any potential crimes or factors that people may want to avoid. The data used for these sites comes from user reports and also official announcements like UW Alerts. A secure travel feature would also be included for students to schedule secured walks. According to the departure time and the estimated transportation time,if the user does not log in the website and click arrive with the time frame, an alert would be sent to the user’s entered emergency contact.

Need to design features with more accurate results (checker tools to limit trolls) and collaborate with different organizations
Appendix.
1. Who is our ideal users?
Our ideal users for our project are UW students who live off campus. UW students who live off campus cannot enjoy services like husky night walk and may have to walk home alone from campus during night time. The streets near campus like the ave is not typically safe, and we hope to provide them with an easy source of information for them to choose safer routes and avoid possible dangerous incidents.
2. Why we are passionate about our project?
Four out of five members of our team live off campus, and all have experience walking home from campus alone during night time. We all hoped that there was an easy source of information for us to get to know the incidents on the paths that we may pass by to be prepared or to detour ahead of time. Therefore, we decided to build such an web application to gather the strength of each huskies and provide a platform with easy to obtain information about possible dangerous incidents on the street and help make night walking easier and safer for every husky.
Reflection.
Throughout this project, I learned how to build a software product as a team and learned the processes and tools used by modern technology teams. By the end of the project, I was able to enter any organization and understand the social and technical contexts in which I am creating software.
Creating E-safety required some new tools that I have never heard of such as MongoDB. However, along with the team, I was able to acquire familiarity and experience with professional software development patterns and practices and build a professional quality MVP project and successfully work as part of a team.
